Winners of China-Australia Year of Tourism Competition
04 September, 2017
2017 marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of China-Australia bilateral diplomatic relations. 2017 is also the China-Australia Year of Tourism, bringing Australia and China closer together, through, not only tourism, but also social and academic perspectives. To mark these milestones, the Chinese Language Teachers' Association of Victoria and the Confucius Institute at the University of Melbourne invited Victorian secondary school students learning Mandarin to explore their relationship with China from their own perspective and to promote a better understanding and appreciation of the language and the culture of Australia and China. The theme for the competition was ‘Melbourne through my eyes’. Through photography and words in Chinese, students demonstrated what they think makes Melbourne the most liveable city in the world and a great place to visit. Three students from VSL Area East 1 won major prizes: 1st prize: Kennessa Lakau – Year 10 Chinese at Doncaster VSL Centre 2nd prize: Annabelle Sularko – Year 10 Chinese at Doncaster VSL Centre 2nd prize: Karissa Ho – Year 11 Box Hill VSL Centre Congratulations to our VSL students who successfully demonstrated their Chinese language skills through this competition.
