VCE Accreditation Meeting
09 November, 2017
On Thursday 2nd November we invited relevant teachers and community members from the Malay, Malayalam and Urdu communities to an information evening to discuss the process & development of a submission for the VCE accreditation for their relevant languages. This was organised by the VSL in consultation with Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA). Ms Maree Dellora, from VCAA, explained the process and submission criteria. Thirty participants attended and it was pleasing that each community has already prepared much of the required criteria. They will now focus on resources and promotion to increase student numbers in each of the languages. We will be meeting again in February to finalise the submissions ready to present to the VCAA board. The process is most likely to take over one year and demands a lot of passion and time commitment by these teachers and their colleagues. We strongly urge the community to rally behind them and support this process as it will be the future generations that benefit in many ways from a successful accreditation. This includes extended studies at senior VCE level and the possibility of having the language count towards university entry (ATAR score). We encourage all community members to support this endeavour by enrolling their children into the language program, regardless of the year level, and to spread the word within your communities!
