Matthew Flinders German class excursion
14 November, 2017
As part of our topic What happens around the Community, on Saturday 4th November, Matthew Flinders German classes went on an excursion to Pakington Street in West Geelong. Both junior and senior level German classes participated. We teamed one senior student and one junior student up and provided them with a questionnaire (in German) around the topic “Our Community”. Pakington Street is a short 15-minute walk from the Matthew Flinders Centre (Geelong) of the Victorian School of Languages. It is a very multicultural shopping strip with lots of cafes, restaurants, libraries, and churches. Along the way and when they arrived at their destination “Pakington Street”, students had to solve and answer tasks in the German language. We were lucky with the weather, the day started off cool but eventually the sun came through. I think the students thoroughly enjoyed the out of class educational experience. It certainly was a great change from the classroom routine. We stopped in for morning tea in an Italian café. Ein fantastischer Ausflug-hope to get one in for next year.
